Manitoba Fall Fishing Report - October
With the first snowflakes already fallen, it won’t be long until the lakes become still in the grasp of the bitter winter cold.
Yet as we approach the forthcoming winter, anglers continue to take advantage of the phenomenal fall fishing opportunities throughout Manitoba.

Master Angler Greenback Walleye – Lake Winnipeg & The Red River
With the rapidly cooling water temperatures, the walleye bite has continued to improve. Schools of greenbacks have been making their way into the south basin of Lake Winnipeg. The narrow sections of the Lake at Hecla Island have been producing a steady bite of greenbacks with some giants mixed in.
When fishing on the lake, using your electronics is essential for improving your success. Typically, you can hunt down schools of walleye as they chase pods of baitfish. Once you're in an area that holds fish, a simple jig and minnow is a deadly combination!

The red river has been rewarding anglers with Master Angler walleye as well, and as we get closer to freeze up, the bite will only get better! If you're looking for a giant walleye, there is no better time to catch a trophy then right now!
Check out this exciting video from Clayton Schick where he heads to Gull Harbour Marina and trolls for giant greenbacks on Lake Winnipeg off the shores of Hecla Island.
Massive Fall Northern Pike – Parkland Region & Northern Region
The prairie lakes of Manitoba's Parkland Region not only produce world-class trout but regularly draw in anglers in the fall to chase massive northern pike as the bite heats up!
Lake of the Prairies and Clear Lake are popular destinations regularly producing pike in the 41”+ range throughout the open and hardwater seasons.

It would be a miss not to mention the spectacular fall pike fishing opportunities found across Manitoba's Northern Region as well. Cedar Lake, Reed Lake, Lake Athapapuskow and so many more offer the chance at a pike of a lifetime with each cast this time of year!

Coloured-up Tiger Trout – Twin Lakes
The tiger trout have been fired up and feeding for the last few weeks. Twin lakes offer phenomenal tiger trout fishing right up until ice-up and is a popular early ice spot for eager anglers.

Jumbo Lake Trout in Manitoba's Northern Region
Early October is known for producing massive lake trout as they emerge from their summer depths and this year is no exception! Some giant lake trout have been caught throughout the northern region the last few weeks in the popular drive-to waters of Clearwater Lake, Athapapuskow Lake, and Kississing Lake!
