Reel in $10,000 at the 2020 Lac Du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby
One of the most cherished winter traditions for Manitoban's, lies in the friendly competition of ice fishing derbies across the province.
Lac Du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby
One of the largest in the province. The Lac Du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby, is set to go for it’s 14th annual event in just a couple weeks, on February 29th, 2020.
This town organized event has continued to grow in popularity and is now bigger than ever. With over $55,000 worth of prizes set to go. The derby is sure to draw anglers from all across the province to this Eastern Region town. Last years derby set records in attendance and fish caught. With nearly 1,200 anglers and 173 total fish caught. This year they are are looking to smash those records yet again.

Prizes
This years derby offers anglers the most prizes they have ever given out. The top 10 places are based on the hidden length and time, these are worth an amazing $20,000. ($10,000 of which for first place) This gives any competitor the opportunity to win just by catching a fish. The angler with the longest fish in this years derby will win an unforgettable trip to Eagles Nest Lodge, worth $2,500!

On top of those already unbelievable prizes, there are also 55 random draw prizes for all anglers, and another 20 random draw prizes for kids. These are worth anywhere from $125 all the way to $2,400. Additional Prizes include first fish, last fish and even a skunked prize for an angler who wasn't fortunate enough to get a bite. During the event there is also a cash raffle that a lucky winner will be leaving with $3000 richer.

Anglers will meet up at the Community Centre after the derby, where the prizes will be given out. New for this year is a second, family friendly location at the legion. Attendees at the legion can view a live streamed broadcast from the community centre, while enjoying snacks and a hot drink.

Additional Information
The derby begins at 10:30am on February 29th and runs until 1:30pm. However, anglers can begin showing up at the Lac Du Bonnet Town Dock on Park Avenue at 8:30am. It is then that the anglers can begin reserving holes with their bucket tags. Anglers are permitted to use modern equipment like sonar units and ice shelters and a full list of rules are available on their website at LDBIce.ca.

On the ice, anglers can enjoy a tasty lunch from Danny's Whole Hog. New for this years derby, is the option to be served right at your hole. Volunteers will be driving around on side-by-sides bringing the lunch directly to you.

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby is a Non-profit Organization that raises funds for community groups in Lac du Bonnet and surrounding area. They also promote Lac Du Bonnet as a four-season destination with family-oriented winter activities. In 13 years of the Lac Du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby, profits raised from the events have been invested into the community through grants, bursaries, and funds for a volunteer workforce. To date, an incredible $161,707 of funding have been injected into the community. Which has helped over 69 projects in Lac Du Bonnet and surrounding communities.
