Beyond Fishing
Beyond the fishing, the scenic beauty of the Winnipeg River captivates visitors. The winding river offers opportunities for canoeing and kayaking, allowing guests to explore its meandering channels and hidden alcoves. Adventurers can also immerse themselves in the untouched wilderness by hiking through the pristine forests, where they might encounter a variety of wild critters.
The Adventure
On a recent trip to Eagle Nest Landing, Bryan and Breanne Nichol embarked on a journey into Manitoba's Eastern Region to the beautiful town of Pointe Du Bois. Just outside town and along the stunning Winnipeg River, they were greeted by James and Dara Pedruchny, the owners of Eagle Nest Landing. After being welcomed into their beautiful cabin, they quickly got rigged up and ready to hit the water.
Knowing they wanted to make the most of their fishing trip and eliminate the guesswork, they chose the guided option with James. They met James on the dock and embarked on the adventure across this majestic river.
Multispecies Mayhem
Their goal for this adventure was to enjoy some quality time together and catch as many fish from as many species as possible, and they were in good hands to accomplish exactly that. They were immediately successful, starting off small, landing a couple of beautiful mooneyes and yellow perch.
Approaching lunchtime, James knew it was time to switch gears and chase the feisty walleye that call this river system home. As easy as 1,2,3, Breanne and Bryan were catching one walleye after another. After keeping enough for lunch and enjoying the fast action, James took the crew to one of his shore lunch spots and began preparing to cook.
James cooked up a classic Canadian Shore lunch featuring everything an angler could expect, and this isn't his first rodeo; in no time flat, the walleyes go from being unhooked and into the livewell to being served as mouthwatering deep-fried perfection.
Jumbo Smallies and Massive Northerns
After their super-satisfying meal, they boarded onto the boat and began across the water. Recharged and full tummies, they decided it was time for some smallmouth bass. No sooner said than done, once again, James pulled through with a shoreline littered with smallies. In no time, they had hooked into a number of smallies, and it was time to move on to the last species of the day, the northern pike.
For this, they began to tie on much larger lures as they prepared to spend a significant time casting and sifting through smaller pike until they had the opportunity to hook into a true giant. While casting along deep weed beds, shallow bays, and weed lines, they caught tons of smaller pike until finally, Bre set the hook, and her rod buckled. They knew immediately that this was going to be a bigger fish! After a brief but intense battle, Bre finally got this fish boat-side and in the net! Mission accomplished!
