Laurie River Lodge is located on a phenomenal fishery, McGavock Lake, which is home to an abundance of northern pike and walleye. We also caught some small lake trout and big white fish too. Though we didn’t measure the whitefish, they were around Master Angler size! The main draw for guests on McGavock is the trophy pike, with 40 inches being caught on a daily occurrence during our stay!
There are many different fly-out lakes and several portages to choose from, so there is no shortage of options. We took a very scenic portage for lake trout, and caught a lot of lakers, along with my biggest walleye of the trip. Guests often describe this lodge as a fisherman's dream come true. The action can be so fast-paced that it's hard to keep up. Consecutive casts often result in back-to-back catches, providing an exhilarating experience. No dull moments in the boat! The memories made there are ones that guests will cherish for a lifetime.
Incredble Local Guides & Fantastic Meals
The guides at Laurie River Lodge are all indigenous and have been with the lodge for many years. Their expertise and knowledge ensure you have the best chance of catching fish each time out. And they can prepare an awesome shore lunch too. We had a great time in the boat with Dion, he put us on the fish fast everywhere we went. He prepared what’s called a “primitive shore lunch” on a nice sandy beach during our fly-out trip. These are always a highlight of any trip to Canada.
The next day we met up with another group there for a shore lunch on MacGavock. There’s nothing like freshly caught walleye over a wood fire in the middle of the wilderness! And speaking of food, from belly-filling breakfasts to multi-course dinners, you won’t leave hungry! Another nice touch, is the hand-delivered appetizers to your cabin door each evening, yum!
