What to Expect

1. Course Study: Before you take the boating licence exam, you must complete a Boating Safety Course which typically takes around three hours. Depending on where you take the course, the fee is usually $59.95 plus tax.

2. Mandatory Exam: After completing the course, you [LW2] take a 50-question, multiple-choice, open-book exam. A minimum score of 75 per cent is required to pass. If you fail, you can take the exam again after 24 hours. If you fail a second time, you will need to retake the course, although the fee will be waived. It’s important you invest the necessary time to pass on the first attempt.

3. Temporary Card: When you pass the exam, you can print a temporary card while waiting for your permanent card to arrive by mail.

4. Lifetime Enjoyment: Your boating licence does not expire, allowing for a lifetime of safe and enjoyable boating experiences!
