Hunting Licences
Licence Requirements
Licences are required for all big game and most game bird hunting. If you wish to hunt, you must have a valid licence for the species you are hunting, and you must carry the licence, and any associated game tags, along with your Hunter Education Certificate with you while hunting.
Hunter Qualifications
To be eligible for a Manitoba hunting licence you must be 12 years of age or older, and possess a valid Manitoba Hunter Education Certificate or equivalent from another jurisdiction or a card issued under subsection 4(4) of the Hunter Education Regulation MR 128/2007.
Any person born on or after January 1, 1951 and any first time hunter wanting to purchase a hunting licence, must be a graduate of the Manitoba Hunter Education course or a similar hunter education course from another jurisdiction.

Hunter Education Exemption
The Hunter Education Regulation provides that if you lawfully held a hunting licence before January 4, 1975, you are eligible to receive a hunter education certificate without having to take a hunter education course. In order to qualify for the exemption, hunters must apply by filling out a declaration form prior to their planned hunt. This process may take up to 6 to 8 weeks to complete. Hunting with an Outfitter/Guide
Outfitters and guides are licensed by the provincial government, meaning your hunt will be organized and led by professionals who not only know the lay of the land, but have an interest in preserving and conserving our wildlife so that it is there for generations of hunters to come.
Foreign Resident Hunters
A person who is neither a Canadian citizen nor a resident of Manitoba.
Foreign resident black bear, white-tailed deer, moose, caribou, wolf and coyote hunters must:
• Book their hunt through a registered lodge or outfitter, authorized to outfit foreign resident hunters.
• Be accompanied by a licensed Manitoba guide. No more than three hunters may use the services of a guide at the same time.
• Only use the services of the outfitter specified on their hunting licence.
Note: Foreign resident migratory game bird or game bird hunters are not required to book their hunt through a licensed outfitter.
Non-Resident Hunters
A person who is a Canadian citizen but is not a Manitoba resident.
Non-resident caribou hunters must:
• Book their hunt through a registered lodge or outfitter, authorized to outfit non-resident caribou hunters.
• Be accompanied by a licensed Manitoba guide. No more than three hunters may use the services of a guide at the same time.
• Only use the services of the outfitter specified on their hunting licence.
Note: Non-resident black bear, white-tailed deer, moose, wolf, coyote, migratory game bird or game bird hunters are not required to book their hunt through a licensed outfitter.

Licence Outlets
Licences may be purchased at various gas stations, hardware, sporting goods stores, and lodge/outfitter locations. Licences may also be purchased at Manitoba Conservation/Water Stewardship regional and district offices.
