Although far from a spotlight species, the bullhead is a tenacious little rascal that will aggressively snatch any edible offering without the slightest bit of restraint. Highly populated in an abundant selection of Manitoba’s warm water lakes, rivers and creeks, this pintsized brawler can be a constant catch throughout the open water season and a great angling option for those learning to fish.
As a recognized species within the Master Angler program, the bullhead accounts for over 200 annual entries and boasts yearly catches that exceed 17 inches. For a fish that’s seldom targeted they do offer an excellent opportunity for a personal achievement and a desired Master Angler designation!
Angling opportunities for bullhead are popular throughout the open water months of May to October, with the majority of river locations offering excellent fishing from the shore.
