Small-mouths, vicious hits, and profuse populations that swarm the water columns like packs of marauding piranhas. But don’t let the small mouths fool you. Anglers who eagerly trail this plentiful species are repeatedly handed an unreal angling experience that would make most speculate on whether it actually happened! No kidding, capitalizing on a sprawling school of giant whitefish is an indescribable encounter that can often seem too good to be true. These big bullies will smash your lure with the force of a freight train, fight with the vigor of a heavyweight champion and offer up overwhelming quantities that never seem to end.
Whitefish is an abundant species on numerous lakes throughout Manitoba and are commonly caught during open and hard water months. They are excellent eating and are subject to generous limits, making them a popular and appealing catch. With many fisheries producing monster whitefish that exceed 25 inches!
Angling opportunities for whitefish are popular during the open water months of June, July, September, and October and during the hard water months of March and April.
